Making Walking Alone
When I had brunch with my friend Miles Hancock to discus our collaboration, he handed me a copy of his band’s yet-to-be-released album and said “I think you’re gonna like the last track.” On the drive home, I popped the disk into my car and skipped to the final track. The song was unexpected and stunningly cinematic and gut-wrenchingly raw and beautiful. Immediately, I knew I had to perform a solo to it.
While I began with a clear idea of the feeling the choreography needed to convey, it wasn’t until I created the costume that everything fell into place. A backless leotard connected to 24’ of stretch mesh fabric became my partner in creation.
The interview below is a conversation between me and Miles a several weeks after the final performance.
